【動画】「芭蕉の見た富士」を公開しました

松尾芭蕉(1644年~1694年)
江戸時代前期の俳諧師(俳句を作ることを職業にする人)です。俳句とは季語(季節を表す言葉)及び5・7・5を主とした世界最短の定型詩の一つとされ、作品には「古池や蛙飛びこむ水の音」や「閑さや岩にしみ入る蝉の声」など数えきれない名句があります。

また、弟子の「曾良」と東北地方を旅して俳句を作り続けた「奥の細道」は、彼の最高傑作が集約された紀行文です。

「雲霧の暫時百景尽くしけり」

霧が出て雲が出て見えない富士も芭蕉には瞬く間に景色を変え百の姿を見ることが出来るとしています。

「霧しぐれ富士をみぬ日ぞ面白き」

晴れた日の富士の姿は誰が見ても素晴らしいが、霧が出て雲が出て見えない日こそどのような富士に見えるか面白いとしています。

このように芭蕉は心の目で見る世界がいかに広く限りなく奥の深いものとして5・7・5の定型詩、いわゆる俳句にしたためています。

Matsuo Basho (1644~1694)
Matsuo Basho was a poet of the early Edo period in japan. The poem called Haiku is a type of short form poetry originally from Japan. Traditional Japanese Haiku consists of three phrases that contain 17 (a type of Japanese phoneme )in a 5,7,5 pattern and Kigo (is a word or phrase associated with a particular season )or season reference. This is one of the most famous Haiku of him and he made numerous number of Haiku in his life.

The ancient pond
A frog leaps in  
The sound of the water

The stillness  
Penetrating the rock  
A cicada’s cry

He is also well known his travel essays called 『Narrow Road to a Far Province』 written with his disciple Sora during his trip to the remote northeastern provinces of Honshu, Japan’s main island.

Here is some example of what is the meaning of some Haiku

『雲霧の暫時百景尽くしけり』
With clouds and mist　
in a brief moment a hundred scenes　
Brought to fulfillment

Tis says from wherever I gaze Mt. Fuji , there is a consummate vista as the beautiful scenery goes through a hundred changes. Even clouds and mist covered with Mt. Fuji and he can’t see the mountain clearly.

『霧しぐれ 富士を見ぬ日ぞ 面白き』
Mist and gentle rain
Fuji can’t be seen today 
How fascinating

This says Mt. Fuji is breathtaking beauty no matter who see on a sunny day, but is it also fascinating when it is cloudy or misty
Therefor Basho see the world from his eyes deeply and sensitivity and he explained this sensitivity on his Haiku in only 5,7,5 pattern sentence.
